Women's Volleyball Resumes
All six schools are back on the floor to open the second half
The PACWEST volleyball schedule finally resumes this weekend following the semester break and will see all six schools in action.
Douglas Royals @ Capilano Blues – Friday January 9, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The first place and undefeated Blues open the second half of the season at home when they host the Royals. They are attempting to match and possibly surpass the 2004-2005 Blues that started the season 11-0, in the school’s record for best starts to a season. A win ties the record; a weekend sweep would set a new school record.
Meanwhile, the Royals are looking to turn their season around after recording just three wins in the first half. They lost three straight heading into the break but played the Blues tough during the first weekend of the season. A win over the Blues will grow their confidence for the second half of play.
These two schools will meet again on Saturday at 5:00pm as the final match of the weekend.
VIU Mariners @ Camosun Chargers – Friday January 9, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The island rivalry ignites the second half of the season as the Mariners visit the Chargers for a weekend doubleheader.
The Mariners entered the break with a pair of four set wins back in late November, which feels like forever ago! They hosted the Chargers in October and swept them in both matches part of a six-match winning streak to open the season. These two matches against at Camosun is their only road trip of the month.
It was a bit of an up and down first semester for the Chargers who haven’t played since November 15th. They entered the semester break with a bye after winning two in a row at CBC, both in dramatic fifth sets. They open the second half of the year with four in a row at home and will wear retro jerseys on Friday and Saturday.
Their rematch is slated for Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
COTR Avalanche @ CBC Bearcats - Friday January 9, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Avs and ‘Cats open the second semester on Friday night as they meet for the second time this season. Their first doubleheader weekend resulted in a sweep by the hometown Avalanche, winning both matches in four sets in October.
Heading into the break the Avalanche recorded just one win in their final five matches but do currently sit in a third-place tie. They begin the second semester with four straight matches on the road but do have a bye in between.
The Bearcats stumbled into the semester break dropping five in a row and haven’t won a set since November 15th. They are on the outside looking in at the current playoff picture and will look to turn their fortunes as the second half opens this weekend.
These schools meet again on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm.
