CCAA National Golf Championship Day 2
After Wednesday's round the championship tournament is half complete
Day 2 of the CCAA national golf championship saw a familiar PACWEST face leap up to second place on the men’s individual leaderboard.
PACWEST champion Daniel Campbell (pictured) of the UFV Cascades has shot himself just two strokes back of the top spot after shooting a 69 on Wednesday. He shot three strokes better than his first round and has a two day total of 141, two back of leader Conner Watt of Ontario’s Humber Hawks.
All-Canadian Wyatt Brook of the VIU Mariners shot two strokes better on Wednesday compared to his opening round. On Wednesday he shot a 72 and now sits tied for the 11th spot with a two-day total of 146.
Scott Merriam continues to be the best Camosun Charger matching his round of 75 from Day 1 and now has a two round total of 150, 11 strokes back of the leader. Meanwhile the top Douglas Royal is Dustin Franko who sits 25th after a Wednesday round of 73.
On the men’s team leaderboard the Cascades are still in the hunt sitting in third place 17 strokes back of the Hawks and Boomerang d’Andre-Laurendeau. The Chargers find themselves in eighth place.
On the women’s leaderboard it was challenging day for PACWEST silver medalist Samantha Copeland of the UBC Okanagan Heat. She’s the top PACWEST golfer sitting in sixth place after shooting a disappointing 85 on Wednesday. That was six strokes worse than Day 1.
PACWEST champion Alex Foston of the VIU Mariners shot an 83 on Wednesday, four strokes better than her first round. However her two-day total is 170, 20 strokes back of the leader Emily Romancew of the John Abbott Islanders.
On the women’s team leaderboard the Heat are sitting in the third spot with a two-day total of 335, 11 strokes back of the Red Deer Queens. The Mariners sit in sixth place, 17 strokes back of the Heat.
The CCAA championship is now half complete with all golfers hitting the course again on Thursday for their third round.
