CCAA National Golf Championship Day 1
PACWEST golfers kept themselves in the hunt heading into the clubhouse
The CCAA national golf championship tournament opened up on Tuesday with the PACWEST well represented in Medicine Hat.
Despite some chilly temperatures in the morning Tuesday turned into a beautiful sunny and 19 degree day as golfers played their first of four rounds on the Desert Blume Golf Club.
UBC Okanagan Heat member Samantha Copeland was the best PACWEST women’s golfer shooting a 79 and tied for fifth, four back of the leader Emily Romancew of John Abbott College in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in Quebec. PACWEST champion Alex Foston of the VIU Mariners shot an 87 and is tied for 12th heading into the clubhouse.
On the women’s team leaderboard the Heat sit fourth, six strokes behind the leading Red Deer Queens. The Mariners on the other hand are sitting sixth, 10 strokes back of the Heat.
On the men’s side PACWEST champion and defending CCAA gold medalist Daniel Campbell of the UFV Cascades shot a 72 and is tied for fourth. He’s two strokes back of the leader Olivier Menard of Boomerang d’Andre-Laurendeau, Quebec. Wyatt Brook of the Mariners shot a 74 on Day 1. Scott Merriam was the top Camosun Charger shooting a 75 while Dustin Franko of the Douglas Royals is tied for 30th after shooting a 79.
On the team leaderboard the PACWEST champion Cascades are fourth, 11 strokes back of the Humber Hawks from Ontario. Meanwhile the Camosun Chargers are tied for seventh and 24 strokes back of the leading Hawks.
Day 2 opens early on Wednesday morning.
