The PACWEST saw several outstanding individual performances during Week 11 of the regular season but only two can be awarded the basketball Athlete of the Week.
Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Lauren Clements – Douglas Royals
Lauren Clements sparked the first-place Douglas Royals to a sweep of the Caomsun Chargers in a hard-fought weekend series. On Friday night, her two steals early in the fourth quarter ignited the Royals 20-point run, breaking open a one-point game after three quarters and leading a tenacious defence that held the Chargers to without a fourth quarter point. She finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, six steals and two assists. Then on Saturday, she continued her defensive prowess, as she finished the game with an impressive nine steals, 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists one steal shy of an offensive/defensive double double.
Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Phil Holmes Jr – Okanagan Coyotes
In an important weekend matchup with playoff positioning on the line Phil Holmes Jr put his Coyotes on his back, on the road in Abbotsford and almost single handedly guided them to a huge victory on Friday night. In the first game of the doubleheader at CBC, Holmes Jr was spectacular finishing with 23 points and 20 rebounds. He followed that performance up with 16 points and 16 more boards in a setback on Saturday. For the weekend he shot 64% from the field and combined to drop in 44 points and add to his Conference leading rebound totals with 36.
