The top seeded Blues flexed their muscle on Friday night and made quick work of the fourth seeded Royals to advance to the gold medal match.
In the first set, the Royals showed heart and battled the Blues point for point for most of the set before the top seed pulled away for a 25-21 win. The second set was a different story with the Blues running away with the score, winning 25-9. In the third, the Blues continued their onslaught with multiple players contributing and finished the match with a 25-20 win.
The night belonged to Abby Betker who smashed 20 kills* to lead her club to victory. Natalie Rourke had a strong match in the middle with several stuff blocks and added six kills. Setter Mollie English ran a very balanced offensive attack and was named the Player of the Match.
On the other hand, the Royals didn’t have much of an answer for the Blues as the match progressed. Lauren Bowman was named the Player of the Match with five kills* and Kara Chan finished with six.*
The Blues advance to play for PACWEST gold on Saturday night and will meet the #2 VIU Mariners with winner representing the Conference in Manitoba at the CCAA national championship at 5:30pm. The Royals will meet the Camosun Chargers in the bronze medal contest on Saturday at 1:00pm.
