Royals Win Bronze
The Douglas Royals took four sets to win bronze on Saturday
Douglas Royals 3
Camosun Chargers 1
The Douglas Royals are PACWEST bronze medalists in 2026 after a thrilling four set win over the Camosun Chargers in the tournament’s lone upset to date.
The fourth seeded Royals took advantage early on with a 25-16 first set win behind timely offence and mistakes by the Chargers. That momentum, however, didn’t last long with the Chargers coming right back in the fourth set to even the match 25-20, cleaning up the earlier mistakes.
In the third set the Royals found their grove again and used outstanding block defence to earn a 25-19 victory to take advantage in the match. They kept that momentum in the fourth despite a push by the Chargers, stuck with their game plan and scored a 26-24 victory to earn their first bronze medal since 2023.
Their offence attack was very balanced with Lauren Bowman, Kara Chan and Player of the Match Morgan Boisvert leading the way. Boisvert finished with 10 kills, several tough plays at the net and was very consistent from the service line. Bowman added eight kills and Chan chipped in with seven to give the Chargers defence plenty to worry about. Jenna Grewal was also very solid with her net play and added four kills and several blocks.
Erica Bolink, in her final PACWEST match, was outstanding with 20 kills and their main source of points. Georgia Archibald played tough at the net defensively, added two kills and was named the Player of the Match.
