The Douglas Royals are PACWEST bronze medalists in 2026 after a three-set sweep over the Capilano Blues on Saturday afternoon.
After getting swept on Friday, the Royals came out much stronger on Saturday playing for their graduating players including Marvin Tumusiime who seemingly put the team on his back and collected 19 kills and was named Player of the Match. His sheer presence on the floor opened opportunities for other players to contribute including Bryston Bilawka who finished with eight kills and Jakub Antosik who added four. Setter Josh Singh had a very strong match racing back and forth chasing down passes and making the right decisions offensively while having a strong match from the service line.
The Blues found it difficult to get into rhythm after their heartbreaking five-set loss last night in their semifinal. Quentin Middleton was a pillar of strength at the net with his block defence and added five kills. Luke Tiegen collected seven kills in the loss and Kyle Hinchey added five. Libero Connor Collinson-Lea was named Player of the Match.
The set scores on Saturday included 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18, all in favour of the Royals.
Head coach Jeff Ross wins a bronze medal with both his men’s and women’s team showing his incredible dedication to both squads this season.
This is the Royals first PACWEST bronze since 2020.
