The PACWEST is ready to open the 2022 volleyball championship tournament

The last time the tournament was held at CBC was in 2016. Purchase your championship tournament pass in advance HERE.
#1 VIU Mariners
The Mariners are the three-time defending national champions and are poised to make another run here in 2022. They come into the tournament with 11 straight wins, losing just three-sets during this streak. They will receive a bye and will play in the semi-final on Friday at 5:30pm facing either the COTR Avalanche or Capilano Blues. The last time the Mariners lost at this tournament was the 2018 gold medal match to Douglas, however they still earned a berth to the nationals and rallied as a Wild Card to win the CCAA gold medal.

They will need to shake off some of the rust in a hurray as they face the host and sixth seed CBC Bearcats on Thursday in a quarterfinal. During the regular season they were 2-1 against the Bearcats winning with a pair of sweeps and dropping a four-set decision. The Chargers have never won a PACWEST gold but are the defending silver medalists.

The Avalanche women’s volleyball program has fond memories of the PACWEST volleyball championship being held at Columbia Bible College (CBC). In 2016, the last time it was held at CBC the Avalanche shocked the Conference and won their only gold medal as the sixth seed and punched their ticket the CCAA national championship, which oddly enough was hosted at Holland College in PEI, the same location as this year’s tournament.
Coming into this year’s PACWEST championship the Avalanche won their final two matches and leapfrogged the Capilano Blues to earn the fourth seed. They will face the Blues in a quarterfinal on Thursday as the opening match of the championship. In their lone meeting of the season the Avalanche swept the Blues three weeks ago; 25-19. 25-20 and 33-31.

#5 Capilano Blues
The Blues limp into the PACWEST championship losing six straight matches and have only won once in 2022. They have been bit by the injury bug and will hope to have their main weapons ready to go for Thursday afternoon and their quarterfinal match with the COTR Avalanche. The Blues have never won this tournament, but their last medal was a bronze in 2019.

They have lost three straight coming into the tournament and will face the third seeded Camosun Chargers in Thursday’s quarterfinal. One of their two wins this season came against the Chargers; a four-set victory in Victoria on January 29th.
