Semi-Final: Royals v. Blues
The women's semi-final will see the #2 Douglas Royals battle the #3 Capilano Blues
The women’s PACWEST soccer championship bracket opens today with the semi-final between the second seeded Douglas Royals and third seeded and Capilano Blues at 2:30pm. WATCH HERE
It’s a rematch of last year’s semi when the Blues scored the upset 1-0 victory and punched their ticket to the gold medal game. Adrianna Babinski won it for the Blues with a second half goal.
These two schools met four times during the regular season with the Royals winning twice, the Blues once and a game finished in a scoreless tie.
In the two Royals victories they combined for five goals as PACWEST All-Star Taylor Spong had a pair of them. The Blues scored three times against the Royals this season, Babinski scored two of them. As a matter of fact, two of her three goals scored ALL season was at the hands of the Royals.
The keepers seemed to rotate during the regular season as well. The Blues used three different keepers and the Royals two. In all Blues’ keepers stopped 34 shots while the Royals’ netminders turned away 28.
Today’s match-up is the third straight season these two schools meet in the PACWEST championship tournament. Last year the Blues upset the Royals and in 2017 the Royals beat the Blues in penalty kicks to win gold. Call today’s game, the rubber match.
