Blues Battle Bearcats
The women's bronze medal game is set as Cap meets CBC
#3 Capilano Blues vs. #4 CBC Bearcats – Saturday March 7, 12:30pm | WATCH HERE
The women’s bronze medal game tips off championship Saturday as the Blue and Bearcats meet for some PACWEST hardware as these two teams play their final game of the season.
This is always a difficult game to get motivated for, but both schools will no doubt find energy to play for their graduating seniors.
Coming into this match up the Blues are coming off a loss to the Douglas Royals 70-59. Their offence shot 28% from the field but Maddy Coffin had a terrific game with 20 and four rebounds while Mia Parkin scored 10 and collected 11 rebounds. She is one of the graduating players along with Lauren Tomlinson, Sereena Hothi and Teigan Manson, all in their fifth season.
Oddly enough the Bearcats were beaten by the VIU Mariners, by the same score of 70-59 in their semifinal after shooting 38% led by the physical presence of Katelyn Mallette and his 20 points under the hoop. She along with Kagari Tomita, AJ Sobotta and an injured Julie Dueck are in the fifth and final season.
The Blues and Bearcats met four times during the regular season with the Blues scoring three victories, however the Bearcats won the final match up on Valentine’s Day. Other than one game they were relatively close, with the average margin of victory at 13 points.
These two schools have never met in the postseason until today. The Blues won bronze last year, the Bearcats have never captured the PACWEST third place medal.
