For the first time at this PACWEST championship tournament the top seeded Mariners hit the floor and will meet the Blues in Friday’s semifinal in a rematch of last year’s gold medal game. As a matter of fact, it’s third straight playoff meeting between these two schools.

The Mariners limp into the postseason winning just once in their last four games, all of which were on the road.  During the season they shot 44% from the field and averaged over 84 points a game and swept the seasonal series with the Blues last facing them in mid-January. 

They are the defending CCAA bronze medalists and have the PACWEST Player of the Year in their arsenal in Adam Anhold.  They can score inside and out and will be ready for this very important match-up against the Blues.

On Thursday the Blues advanced to this semi-final with a 76-64 victory over the fourth seeded CBC Bearcats.  They led from start to finish and shot 44% from the field and nailed 10-three pointers.  Nine different scorers hit the scoresheet led by First Team All-Star Kash Lang and his 19 points.  They got great production from their bench as they scored 32 of their 76 points.

The winner of this semifinal advances to play for PACWEST gold on Saturday and earns a berth at the 2024 CCAA national championship in New Brunswick in two weeks.
