Royals Beat Chargers
The Douglas Royals run past the Camosun Chargers to the semi-finals
The Douglas Royals used an excellent second half to sneak by the Camosun Chargers in the women’s quarterfinal winning 63-55 and advance at the PACWEST championship.
Rookie Mackenzie Dalphond was terrific in her first playoff game leading the Royals with 19 points and seven rebounds coming off the bench. She was the only player to reach double digits in this hard-fought contest and was named Player of the Game. As a team the Royals shot 32% from the field and did just enough defensively holding the Chargers to 10 points in the fourth quarter.
The loss spells the end for the Chargers and their leader Rhiannon Ware who played in her final PACWEST game. She led her club in scoring with 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Allison Bobroske was the Player of the Game with 14 points and 10 boards. As a team they shot 31% but couldn’t find the bottom of the hoop in the fourth quarter.
With the win the Royals advance to the semifinals on Friday and will meet the VIU Mariners.
