For the third straight season the Royals and Chargers meet in the playoffs
#4 Douglas Royals vs. #5 Camosun Chargers – Thursday February 29, 5:30pm | WATCH HERE
It’s another Royals-Chargers playoff tilt.
This is the fourth straight season the Royals and Chargers meet in the playoffs after four points separated them in the standings. They also met four times during the regular season with each winning twice. Oddly enough both wins were weekend sweeps and were on the road. The Royals won both at Camosun in late October before the Chargers returned the favour in mid-January.
During the seasonal series the Chargers shot 34.3% from the field while the Royals connected on 33.7%.
The Royals have certainly played better in the second semester winning nine of their 12 games since January, however two of their three loses came against the Chargers. The Royals could have a slight advantage on the floor after playing in Kelowna this last weekend.
In the month of February, the Chargers have struggled winning just twice in eight games and have dropped their last five as they limp into the playoffs. During the campaign they shot 33% and scored just over 61 points a game. They are more of a defensive team and will need to be strong defensively to knock off Douglas.
These schools met in last season’s bronze medal game at Camosun which saw the Chargers claim a 66-57 victory. The last time the Royals beat the Chargers in the postseason was in 2022 in a quarterfinal with a 67-56 win.
The winner moves on to play the VIU Mariners in Friday’s semi-final.
