Royals Win Bronze

The Douglas Royals win the 2022 PACWEST bronze medal with a 67-63 come from behind victory over the Capilano Blues on Saturday afternoon.

Down by two points in the late stages of the fourth quarter Karalee Antoine hit a massive three-pointer off the glass to give the Royals a lead that they never let go of.  In the game they shot 34% from the field and got a game high from Jenessa Knapp who scored 17 points in the win while Antoine finished with 16.   The Royals win their second straight bronze medal after capturing it in 2020.

It was a heartbreaking loss for the Blues who came into the tournament as the second seed and leave without a victory.  They shot 42.4% from the field but had trouble with the Royals press in the late stages of the game. They led by 13 points heading into the final frame but couldn’t secure the win.  Mackenzie Smith was again solid and led her team with 13 points and Kirsten Abo collected 12.  It’s the first season the Blues leave the championship tournament without a medal since 2015.
