Friday Night Recap
The Blues, Mariners and Chargers win on Week 13's Friday night
The playoff picture in women’s volleyball ls starting to come clear following three-three straight set wins on Friday night.
Capilano Blues 3
COTR Avalanche 0
The first place Blues (18-1) showed they have no intention of taking their foot off the gas making quick work of the visiting Avalanche in three sets on Friday night in North Vancouver.
It was their third match win over the Avalanche this season, winning 25-13, 25-10 and 25-17, scoring their 18th win of the campaign.
The loss hurts the Avalanche (6-13) in the standings who will now need to fight for their playoff lives on Saturday. They meet the Blues again at 1:00pm, as they sit in a fourth-place tie with the Douglas Royals.
Saturday afternoon the rematch is set for 4:00pm.
VIU Mariners 3
CBC Bearcats 0
The Mariners wasted little time on Friday getting past the Bearcats in three straight sets and officially eliminated the Bearcats from postseason play.
In the first set, the Mariners set the tone with a 25-16 win before taking complete control of the match, winning 25-17 in the second set. They continued to steam roll, beating the visitors 25-23 to end the night after three straight sets.
The loss eliminates the Bearcats (5-14) who will look to end the season on a high when they visit the Mariners (15-4) again on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
Camosun Chargers 3
Douglas Royals 0
The visiting Chargers pulled off an important Friday night sweep over the Royals and moved into sole possession of third place with one match to go.
All three sets were very competitive but anytime a team needed a massive point, the Chargers came through. They won the first set 28-26, then scored a 25-20 win before finishing off the Royals 26-24.
They hold down the #3 seed with one more match to go on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm when the Chargers (7-12) look to shore up the final playoff spot against the Royals (6-13). A Royals’ win on Saturday completely log jams the standings.
