Women's Week 12 Volleyball
All six schools will see action this weekend
Week 12 of the PACWEST women’s volleyball schedule features all six schools in action with a pair of possible playoff previews and another match with two schools still in the hunt for a playoff berth.
Capilano Blues @ Camosun Chargers – Friday February 6, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s a potential semi-final preview this weekend as the Blues visit the Chargers for a doubleheader on the island. In their first meeting the Blues swept the weekend with match wins of four and three sets respectively in early November.
The Blues (15-1) have won two in a row coming into the weekend and have suffered only one defeat this season. They have won 22 more sets than the Chargers and are looking to continue that trend this weekend having already clinched a playoff spot with four matches to go. They have been balanced all year on the offensive side led by Abi Betker and Nnya Mbaoma who have combined to tally 430 kills.
They meet a Chargers (6-10) team that has stumbled as of late, winning once in their last four matches. They are currently holding down a playoff spot, tied with the COTR Avalanche for third place but the Douglas Royals are only two points behind with four matches to go. The Chargers will meet the Royals at Douglas the following weekend. Erica Bolink leads the PACWEST Conference with 233 kills as her collegiate career winds down.
These two schools meet again on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm on the island.
VIU Mariners @ COTR Avalanche – Friday February 6, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The other possible preview this weekend will see the Mariners visit the Avalanche with 12 points separating them in the standings. The Mariners (12-4) are one of only two women’s programs with a winning record.
The visitors have won three straight matches, the last two by clean sweeps as they continue to gear up for the postseason. The last time they met the Avalanche was at the end of October and collected a pair of wins by three and four sets respectively. They have clinched a playoff spot as they play their final road matches of the regular season with veteran Grace Brisebois leading the club with 176 kills.
It has been a bumpy ride since the calendar turned to 2026 for the Avalanche (6-10) as they prepare to host their final home matches of the season. They coming into the weekend winning twice in six matches in January but are coming off a split last weekend at home. They are clinging to a playoff spot, tied for third with the Camosun Chargers, but only two points up on the Douglas Royals with four matches to go. Success this weekend against the Mariners would help them inch closer to the postseason.
These two schools will meet again on Saturday at 12:00pm.
CBC Bearcats @ Douglas Royals – Friday February 6, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s do or die for both teams coming into the weekend on the outside looking in at the playoff picture.
The Royals (5-11) find themselves two points out of the final playoff spot with their final four matches on their home floor. They come into the weekend losing two straight, looking to turn the tide against the Bearcats. In their first matchup of the year, the Bearcats won the first meeting in five, before the Royals came back the next day to earn a four-set victory.
Speaking of the Bearcats (4-12), they were swept at home last weekend by the visiting Capilano Blues. They remain four points out of a playoff spot with four road matches left on their schedule. This is a massive weekend against the Royals, a team they have beaten this season, so these points are critical with a visit to VIU on the horizon for next week.
The Royals and Bearcats will meet for the final time on Saturday at 5:00pm.
