Women's Volleyball Week 11
A pair of important matches highlight this weekend
The women’s PACWEST volleyball schedule turns to Week 11 with a pair of matches ready for a grueling doubleheader.
Camosun Chargers @ COTR Avalanche – Friday January 30, 5:00pm | WATCH HERE
This is an interesting weekend matchup as both teams come into play with identical records and fighting for a playoff spot. As an extra layer of the story, these two split their first weekend matchup in early November when they saw each other at Camosun. They both battled tough and each beat the other in five sets. In the first match the Avalanche completed the reverse sweep to win in five, then the next day the Chargers bounced back to earn a five-setter of their own.
The Chargers (5-9) have struggled since the calendar turned, winning one of their four matches and find themselves on the road for the first time in 2026. Erica Bolink continues to be the focal point of the offence and leads the team with 205 kills. They will need a couple of other players to step up with production numbers in order for them to clinch a playoff spot.
Like the Chargers, the Avalanche (5-9) have only one win since the flip to January and have lost three straight in the process. They are at home for the first time this calendar year and are hoping a little home cooking can help turn their season around. Eloise Newsome has had a nice year and leads her club with 131 kills.
The schools will meet for the final time in the regular season on Saturday afternoon at 12:00pm.
Douglas Royals @ VIU Mariners – Friday January 30, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
At the end of November, the Mariners went to Douglas and beat them twice in the fourth, setting up this weekend as the rematch with playoff positioning on the line.
The Mariners (10-4) are coming off a bye weekend after splitting with the visiting Capilano Blues two weeks ago. They will be well rested to meet the Royals for the second time this year on their home floor, where they are 5-1. Offensively they have been led by the very effective 1-2 punch of Grace Brisebois and Regan Ingram who have combined to record 303 kills.
It hasn’t been the most celebrated season this year at Douglas, but they have solid momentum coming into this weekend after a pair of 3-0 sweeps last weekend over the visiting COTR Avalanche to get them back into the playoff discussion. They will be challenged this weekend, not only against the Mariners, but on the road at VIU for their final road matches of the season. The Royals (5-9) are currently in a three-way tie for final two playoff spots with six matches left.
The schools will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm for the rematch.
