PACWEST Grad Class: Capilano Blues
A pair of veteran Blues have graduated from women's soccer
The dreaded Mya to Maya connection has come to an end at Capilano as both incredible student athletes have graduated from the University.
Maya Smith played four seasons with the Blues women’s soccer program and truly had an amazing career as a forward. Last season she played 11 games, scored three goals and had eight shots on goal. She graduates with a Kinesiology degree and was highly decorated on and off the pitch.
In all, the Port Coquitlam native won a PACWEST gold medal, a pair of silvers, and added a CCAA bronze medal and tournament All-Star last year to her trophy case. She is a two-time PACWEST All-Star on the pitch, while in the classroom a three-time CCAA national scholar, two-time CCAA Academic All-Canadian, four-time PACWEST Academic Excellence Award winner and five-time Blues Scholar Athlete of Distinction.
Her leadership skills and talents will be missed next season at Capilano.
Defender Mya Fraser also had a sparkling five-year career with the Blues and graduates with a Communications degree. She played 11 games last season and registered an assist.
Obviously as a backend player and defending the line, statistics are difficult to come by, but Fraser was still recognized as one of the best to strap on the shin pads at Capilano. She was named the CapU Blues Athlete of the Year last season and is a two-time Blues team Most Valuable Player.
Throughout her five-year career she captured a PACWEST gold medal, two silvers and capped off her incredible career with a CCAA bronze and tournament All-Star nod last year. She is also a three-time PACWEST Conference All-Star, a CCAA Academic All-Canadian, two-time Blues Scholar Athlete of Distinction and two-time Blues Scholar Athlete Honourable Mention.
Both Smith and Fraser will definitely be missed next season, however their leadership and work ethic was handed down to the next generation of leaders at Capilano, so the Blues are in good hands.
They are both members of the PACWEST Grad Class of 2025.
