The Mariners, Blues and Falcons each win on the road on Friday night
The road warriors would reign supreme on Friday night as Week 13 of the women’s basketball season tipped off.

The Mariners won a gritty road game on Friday night in a game that appeared to be sloppy with both offences struggling to find a rhythm.
The visitors shot 34% from the field, but only 9% from the three-point line in the victory, relying on their defence to get the win. They would force 20 turnovers and collected 10 steals as the Mariners moved into sole possession of first place in the standings and earned a first-round playoff bye knowing they can’t finish worse than second place. Kiayra Hohlweg scored a team high 12 points.
The Chargers played much better in the second half and made the game close after trailing by 14 points at the half. Kanda Diop was great with a game high 17 points and snagged 12 rebounds leading her club that shot 27% from the field.
On Saturday afternoon the Mariners (18-3) and Chargers (6-15) duke it out for the final time in the regular season.
Capilano Blues 66
CBC Bearcats 52
The Blues exploded out of the gate outscoring the Bearcats 18-8 and never looked back winning their 15th of the season and clinched at least third place in the standings, with still a chance to advance.
Their starters scored all but eight points led by Maddy Coffin and her double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mia Parkin added 15, including three-threes and Barcha Hnizdilova added 14.
Defensively they held the Bearcats to 29% shooting and 8-24 from downtown. Julie Dueck did lead her team with 17 points and Kagari Tomita added 11.
On Saturday night the Blues (15-6) and Bearcats (11-10) will meet for the final time in the regular season with eight points separating them in the standings. The tip off is set for 5:00pm.
Langara Falcons 86
Okanagan Coyotes 75
In front of a very good crowd the Coyotes fought back in the fourth quarter but ultimately ran out of time after digging themselves into a major hole that the Falcons took advantage of.
The visiting Falcons played an outstanding road game shooting 53% in the process using a very balanced offensive attack. Nadia Singh led her team with 21 points and Katelyn Lafleur tallied 19 after a perfect 3-3 from long range.
Their bench contributed valuable minutes and scored 34 of their points with Isabell Nicholson adding a spark with 13 points.
By the end of the game, four Coyotes’ starters had scored at least 12 points to help pace the home side. Jordan Kemper was honoured before the game as a senior before knocking down a team high 21 points. Rebecca Boyes was deadly from downtown hitting five-three pointers out of seven attempts and finished with 17-points.
On Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm the Falcons (8-13) will look for the sweep over the Coyotes (0-23) who will play their final game of the season.
