A full slate of games this weekend in women's basketball
Friday night the PACWEST basketball season turns to Week 13 with a full slate of weekend doubleheaders.
Capilano Blues @ CBC Bearcats – Friday February 13, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
With four game to go and six points separating them in the standings, the Blues and Bearcats meet for the second weekend this season after the Blues swept them at Capilano at the end of November by 27 and nine points respectively.
The Blues (12-6) are coming off an exciting weekend splitting wins with the visiting Douglas Royals in a pair of very tight games. Overall, however, the Blues have lost three of their last four games, all of them home floor. Of their final four games, three of them will be played on the road, including this weekend in Abbotsford. Their offence is dropping 65.8 points a game and shooting 36%, but defensively they have been outstanding, allowing the fewest points in the Conference through 18 games.
Coming into the weekend the Bearcats (11-9) are comfortably sitting in fourth place with an outside chance of still catching the Blues for third. They split last weekend in a home-and-home with Langara, sneaking by the Falcons in their last game by six points. They are shooting 34% on the season but will need to tighten up their defence down the stretch if they want to be successful in the postseason.
These two schools meet again on Saturday afternoon at 5:00pm.
VIU Mariners @ Camosun Chargers – Friday February 13, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Mariners (17-3) are currently tied with the Douglas Royals for first place in the standings but have an opportunity to pull away this weekend with the Royals on their bye week.
They have won five straight games and are on the road for the final time this season when they visit the Chargers. They swept their island rivals at the end of November with an average point margin of 10.5 points. They are shooting 34% from the field this year and scoring over 64 points a game while their defence has been terrific holding teams to 53 a game and 32% shooting. With at least one victory this weekend they will clinch a first-round playoff bye.
The Chargers (6-14) are coming off their much-needed bye week after losing four in a row. They have clinched a playoff berth, currently sitting in sixth place, two points back of fifth with four games to go. They are shooting 37% this season and are averaging 62 points a game.
These island rivals will meet for the final time this year when they play in the weekend rematch at 1:00pm on Saturday.
Langara Falcons @ Okanagan Coyotes – Friday February 13, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s the final meeting of the season between the Falcons and Coyotes this weekend after the Falcons swept the first weekend at Langara winning by 42 and eight points respectively.
Coming into the weekend the Falcons (7-13) are clinging to fifth place in the standings by two points over the Camosun Chargers. They know they will finish in either fifth or sixth place this season, having already clinched a playoff spot. Three of their final four games will be on the road, where they haven’t enjoyed much success with a 2-7 record. Overall, they are shooting 34% and scoring over 58 points a game but seemingly have played better as of late. By facing a winless Coyotes team and the Chargers meeting the VIU Mariners, the Falcons feel like they have an opportunity to move closer to clinching the fifth seed.
The Coyotes (0-22) have an opportunity to play spoiler in their final two games of the year. They are shooting 33% this season and scoring 58-points a game.
On Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm, these two schools meet for the final time.
