The COTR Avalanche move on at the CCAA national tournament
The PACWEST champion COTR Avalanche opened the CCAA national championship with an impressive three-set sweep over the MCAC Providence Pilots on Wednesday evening in Edmonton.
The Avalanche began the match with a tight 25–22 win in the first set before building momentum to take the second set 25–20, putting themselves in the driver’s seat. They continued to control the pace in the third set, closing out the match with a 25–17 victory.
Both teams relied heavily on their setters to drive the offence throughout the contest. Boston Thiessen was named the Player of the Match and led the way with an impressive 37 assists, helping orchestrate the team’s efficient attack. PACWEST Player of the Year Dylan Annala found room to score points and caught fire with 17 kills while Diego Policarpo added eight and Luke Margenau tallied six from the middle.
With the victory they advance to Thursday’s semifinal against the Quebec champion Titans de Limoilou at 8:00pm MST with the winner advancing to the national gold medal match.
