The Mariners, Blues and Royals win big
The men’s volleyball schedule entered Week 12 of the season with three exciting matches on a Friday night.

COTR Avalanche 2
This match lived up to the hype and then some as the top two teams in the PACWEST battled to open up Week 12 of the season.
The Avalanche took control in the first set with a 25-22 victory, but the Mariners bounced right back. In the second set the points went back and forth in a very entertaining set that the visitors took 25-23 to tie the match.
In the third, the Avalanche used the hometown crowd to outlast the Mariners 25-22 to retake the lead in the match, however it didn’t last long. The visitors again bounced back, using extra points in the process to tie the match with a thrilling 28-26 win to force the fifth set.
In the final frame the teams left it all out on the court, but it would the visiting Mariners to earn the hard-fought match with a 15-13 victory in the fifth.
The final doesn’t change much for the Avalanche (14-3) but for the Mariners (10-7) they move one step closer to clinching the second seed. The rematch between these two schools is set for Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
Capilano Blues 3
Camosun Chargers 0
It was an impressive Friday night for the Blues, going on the road to earn just their second road win with a three-set sweep over the Chargers.
The Blues took the first set 28-26, giving them life and deflating the Chargers who are playing at home for the final time this year. In the second the Blues continued to pour it on with a 25-21 win before a marathon in the third set.
The teams would play one of the most exciting sets of the year as plenty of extra points were needed. In the end the Blues would earn the 32-30 victory for the sweep, setting up a very important rematch on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm. The Blues (9-8) have a four-point lead over the Chargers (7-10) in the standings with the Chargers now on the outside looking in at the playoff picture.
Douglas Royals 3
CBC Bearcats 1
The Royals have leapfrogged the Camosun Chargers into the final playoff spot after a four-set win over the visiting Bearcats on Friday.
The visitors took control of the match with an opening set win of 25-21, which may have woke the Royals up. The home side came back in the second set with vengeance and a 25-19 score to even the match and then kept the momentum the rest of the way. In the third they took control of the match with a 25-20 win before ending the night in the fourth with another 25-20 victory to jump into the final playoff spot.
On Saturday night the Royals (8-9) and Bearcats (3-14) meet for the final time this season at 7:00pm.
