Second Verse...
The Avalanche and Mariners collect a Saturday win
Second verse, same as the first! Men’s PACWEST volleyball saw a weekend sweep with the home teams coming out on top.
COTR Avalanche 3
Camosun Chargers 0
Saturday afternoon the three-sets between the Avalanche and Chargers was very close and entertaining but as the dust settled, it was the Avalanche scoring the sweep.
The first set was fun to watch with the schools needing extra points to determine the outcome, with the Avalanche earning a 31-29 win to take the match lead. In the second, the Avalanche again outlasted the Chargers and won 25-23 before finishing off the visitors with a second straight 25-23 victory.
With the win, the Avalanche (14-2) took both matches from the Chargers in three-set sweeps and will now get ready to entertain the VIU Mariners (9-7) next weekend. The Chargers (7-9) head home to welcome the Capilano Blues (8-8).
VIU Mariners 3
Douglas Royals 1
The second straight match the Mariners took care of the visiting Royals for their ninth win of the campaign.
They opened the match with a 25-17 victory to set the mood on the island. There was more of the same in the second frame with the home side winning with a convincing 25-15.
The Royals did show some push back in the third set and tried to issue a comeback by taking the set 25-18 and build some momentum. However, it didn’t last as the Mariners came swooping back in the fourth set to earn the match win with a 25-21 victory.
Following the weekend sweep, the Mariners (9-7) move into sole possession of second place in the standings and will now head to COTR next weekend to meet the Avalanche (14-2) and the Royals (7-9) will host the CBC Bearcats (3-13).
