Men's Week 11 Volleyball
Four schools in action in a very important weekend doubleheader
Hello, Week 11, good to see you as the men’s PACWEST volleyball schedule will see a pair of weekend doubleheaders.
Camosun Chargers @ COTR Avalanche – Friday January 30, 7:00pm | WATCH HERE
If this weekend is half as exciting as their first meeting of the season, the fans in Cranbrook are in for a heck of a weekend when the Avalanche (12-2) entertain the Chargers (7-7).
Back in November, the Avalanche earned a hard-fought sweep at Camosun. They took the first match in four sets before needing to complete the reverse sweep the next day to keep their undefeated season alive. They have since fallen twice but are the first school to clinch a playoff spot with six matches to go on the schedule.
Coming into the weekend they have won three of their last four, all on the road and are finally back at home for the first time in 2026. The Avalanche have been without superstar Diego Policarpo for the last four matches and with a ticket to the postseason already punched, it will be interesting to see how the coaching staff plays this weekend with or without him in the lineup.
The Chargers are currently in a dogfight for a playoff spot with the season winding down. Four teams, including the Chargers, are all within two points of each other with three spots remaining. They have picked up their play and have won three straight matches, all at home. They hit the road for the first time in 2026 looking to improve on their 2-4 road record. Elijah Woldringh leads them offensively with 150 kills.
On Saturday afternoon they will meet for the final time this regular season at 2:00pm, but there is a very good possibility they could meet again in the playoffs.
Douglas Royals @ VIU Mariners – Friday January 30, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
A pair of schools with identical records will battle on the island looking to take advantage in the final push for the playoffs when the Royals (7-7) visit the Mariners (7-7).
Last weekend the Royals snapped their three-match losing streak with a three-set sweep over the visiting COTR Avalanche which they are hoping ignites their play down the stretch. They are on the road for the final time this season and are in the middle of a battle with three other teams looking to secure one of the final three playoff positions. A win this weekend in both matches would give them the advantage in a tiebreaker scenario with the Mariners.
Since the calendar flipped to January, the Mariners have been playing some of their best volleyball, winning three of their last four and are coming off a bye week. This is obviously a very important weekend for points in the standings, and they will no doubt try and give the hometown crowd something to cheer about in what is expected to be a very exciting weekend at VIU.
These two schools will again meet on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm in the rematch.
