It’s Week 9 of the men’s PACWEST volleyball schedule with both doubleheaders this weekend taking place on the Island.
Capilano Blues @ VIU Mariners – Friday January 16, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
Just four points separate these two schools in the PACWEST standings as the Blues (7-5) visit the Mariners (5-7). It’s the final time they will meet in the regular season.
The Blues are coming off back-to-back wins over the Douglas Royals at home last weekend. They have been outstanding at home this year with all seven of their victories coming at Capilano. It’s a different story on the road, looking for their first win at 0-4 and will play their next six on the road. They will try and notch that first dub this weekend meeting the Mariners who they swept back in November, winning both matches courtesy of a clean three-set sweep.
As for the Mariners, they are at home for the first time since Halloween. They are coming off an emotional split at Camosun last weekend, winning on Friday night in four sets, then let Saturday slip away coughing up the reverse sweep. They are back at home for the next four, looking to take advantage and climb up the standings.
Saturday afternoon these two schools will meet again at 3:00pm, which will be their last meeting of the regular season.
CBC Bearcats @ Camosun Chargers – Friday January 16, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
It feels like a must win kind of weekend for both schools as the Chargers (5-7) host the Bearcats (2-10) for two in a row starting Friday night.
This is the second doubleheader weekend of the season after a split in November; the Chargers winning the first in three straight sets, before the Bearcats stormed back the next day and won in five.
The Chargers are coming off a split last weekend, losing to the visiting VIU Mariners in four sets the first night, then rallied on Saturday to pull off an improbable reverse sweep. They are a 500 club at home and will head into a bye following this weekend giving them an opportunity to leave it all on the floor. They need to win to keep pace in the playoff picture.
Dating back to before the holiday break, the Bearcats have lost four in a row after getting swept by the visiting COTR Avalanche last weekend. As a matter of fact, their last win, was when they beat the Chargers in November. They are currently on the outside looking in at the playoff picture, six points behind the Chargers and need to win this weekend to give themselves a chance at the postseason. CBC will host the PACWEST volleyball championship tournament at the end of February.
On Saturday afternoon the Chargers and Bearcats meet for the final time this season at 3:00pm.
