COTR Avalanche 3
CBC Bearcats 1
The top ranked Avalanche were slightly tested on Friday but in the end earned a four-set victory over the hometown Bearcats.
The Avalanche won the first set 25-19 to take control of the match, but the Bearcats came right back to even it up with a convincing 25-14 victory. It’s as close as they would come because the Avalanche took their game to another level in the third and won 25-16 to take advantage and never looked back. The fourth set was more of the same as the Avalanche finished off the Bearcats 25-19 to win the match.
Saturday they will meet for the final time in the regular season at 6:00pm in Abbotsford.
Capilano Blues 3
Douglas Royals 2
These two teams scored plenty of points on Friday night to open the second semester going the distance in a thriller.
The Royals would strike first, winning the first set 27-25 to take advantage of the match. However, the Blues would not be outdone winning the second set, also with extra points, capturing a 29-27 victory to even the match. They would then ride that momentum into the third set and took their first match lead, winning 25-23, again in a tight contest.
In the fourth, the Royals fought hard in a set that again needed extra points. The Royals would eventually take it 28-26 to even the match and force a fifth set. Points would go back and forth in the final set before the Blues laid stake to a 15-13 victory, capping off a marathon night at Capilano.
These two teams were exhausted and will do it all over again on Saturday night at 7:00pm to conclude Week 8 of the regular season.
VIU Mariners 3
Camosun Chargers 2
The visiting Mariners went into Camosun and came out with a statement win to open the second half of the schedule.
It would be the Chargers that took control with a 25-23 win in the first set in front of the hometown crowd. However, it would be the only win they would get on Friday night because from there on it was all Mariners winning the next three sets 25-21, 25-22 and 25-21 to win the match.
The rematch on the island is set for Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.
