The women’s bracket opens the PACWEST championship tournament on Thursday when the defending Conference champion Coyotes meet the fourth seeded Royals.
The Coyotes haven’t had the same consistency this year as they did last on a current three-game losing streak and are the fifth seed. That said, when it comes to the postseason the Coyotes core is battle tested after winning the gold last year and playing in the national championship tournament. Returners Soleil Wilding, Natasha Alfonso, Julia Kreitz and Elizabeth Henne will need to be at the top of their game on Thursday if they want to advance.
Their opponent is the fourth seeded Royals who beat the Coyotes in all three meetings during the regular season.
After a four-game winning streak in January, the Royals have stumbled in the month of February and have lost four straight coming into the championship tournament. Two of their three wins against the Coyotes this year have been by just two points and both of those came at home at the end of January. As a matter of fact, their last win of the regular season was a 79-77 victory over the Coyotes.
This should be a very tight game on Thursday with the winner moving on to the semi-finals on Friday.
