Falcons-Royals Quarterfinal
The Langara Falcons and Douglas Royals lock horns on Thursday night
#5 Douglas Royals @ #4 Langara Falcons – Thursday March 2, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
Looking at the standings, there is just four points separating the Falcons and Royals coming into the PACWEST championship tournament this Thursday. They will meet in a quarterfinal after the Royals won the seasonal series with a pair of wins, but they haven’t seen each other since early January.
The Falcons will be the home team in this quarterfinal as the fourth seed. They come into the tournament winning four of their six games in the month of February. They are the third highest scoring team in the PACWEST but have a tendency to give up a lot of points on the other end, coughing up the second most per game on average. They are the defending bronze medalists but have their eyes set a little higher this season, not having won gold since 2014 when they won back-to-back titles.
On the other side the Royals missed out on a medal last season after winning gold in 2020, but not getting a chance to play at nationals because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Coming into this postseason they are limping, losing their final four games They are in the middle of the pack when it comes to offensive scoring but have given up the third most points during the campaign.
The last time they faced one another in the playoffs was a 2018 semi-final which the Royals won 96-85 on route to their Conference gold medal. The Falcons finished with the bronze that season.
This should be a very entertaining game with the winner facing the VIU Mariners in Friday’s semi-final.
