The VIU Mariners are on the path to a CCAA bronze medal today after falling 3-0 to the host Red Deer Kings on Friday night.
The Mariners will face the Griffons de l’Outaouais this morning at 11:00am PST in a bronze medal semi-final. The winner moves onto face the Keyano Huskies later today for the bronze medal.
This is the second straight year the Mariners find themselves in this position. Last year they faced the Camosun Chargers and lost in a thrilling match on Camosun’s campus.
Today the Mariners will need to keep their eye on Alexis Tournier who has a team high 29 kills through the first two matches.
The Griffons’ road to this match against the Mariners was a bit different. As a RSEQ wildcard they were shutout in the quarterfinal by the Huskies losing 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18. Then yesterday they cruised through the Holland Hurricanes in three straight sets 25-14, 25-18 and 25-19.
This will be the first match between these two schools.
