The Douglas College Royals will defend their PACWEST women’s soccer gold medal after a thrilling 2-1 extra time victory over the Capilano Blues in Friday’s semi-final.
The PACWEST women’s Player of the Year Andrea Perrotta opened the scoring for the Royals with a goal in the 19th minute.
The Blues would answer in the 40th minute on a scrappy goal to tie things up from Taylor Einhorn.
Nothing was solved in regulation so the clubs went to extra time. In the first extra session the Royals would strike on a cross as Taylor Wetting found the back of the net.
The Blues fought hard looking for the equalizer but the Royals defence held on for the win. Michelle Wessa was named Player of the Game.
The Royals now face the VIU Mariners in the women’s gold medal game tomorrow at 5:00pm. The Blues will face the Langara Falcons in the bronze medal game.
